Ensuring Long-Term Support For Heifer’s Mission
One of the primary goals of Heifer Foundation is developing and managing an endowment to provide long-term support for our sister organization, Heifer International. An endowment is made up of charitable gifts, such as cash, property and stock, and also funds from bequests, trusts and annuities that are invested so that the funds can provide annual support for an organization for many years.
By investing the charitable gift prudently, the initial donation has a greater impact over a longer period of time. Each year, a percentage of the endowments interest is made available to Heifer International. Some years, Heifer International may not call up the funds, choosing instead to let the endowment grow until a time it is most needed.
At Heifer Foundation, there are two ways to donate through endowments - Named Memorial Endowments and our Country, Cause and Initiative Endowments.
Named Memorial Endowment
One meaningful way to create an ongoing legacy is by establishing a Named Memorial Endowment. Many families, businesses and institutions have chosen to establish endowments to honor traditions, mark achievements, or in appreciation of friends, relatives, colleagues or community leaders. The endowment serves not only as a perennial source of income to Heifer, but also as a continuing reminder of the values of the individual(s) or institution it honors. In addition, Heifer Foundation establishes a named endowment in memory of each donor who leaves a bequest or who gives charitable annuities or trusts.

Country, Cause And Initiative Endowments
Heifer Foundation has a variety of restricted endowments that are designated for either specific countries or ongoing initiatives that are part of the overall mission of ending hunger and poverty and caring for the Earth. The Heifer International country offices are able to request funds from their designated endowments and the different initiative endowments each year. If you have spent time in Southeast Asia or Africa, you can support the efforts of the different countries directly. If you have a passion for gender equity in developing nations, you can direct your funds to those endowments.
